DECEMBER 23rd - Sunshine. Roses. Sunshine Shining on Roses.

On this day in 1972, the last eight survivors of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 that crashed in the Andes Mountains were rescued, more than two months after the crash. They survived in large part because they were zombies. They weren’t actually zombies, but they did resort to cannibalism. But only of the passengers that had already died. They were basically reverse zombies. And I’m not judging one little bit. I cannot fathom the horror and desperation of being stranded in a barren mountainside where food options were non-existent. From all accounts of the survivors, the decision was not made lightly nor with relish. No one was killed in order for others to satiate hunger. It was just people doing what they had to do to survive. The will to live is an extraordinary desire in most human beings. So much so that in certain situations people resort to unspeakable acts. It is understandable. And, as I’ve stated, it is absolutely human. Someone with a strong will to survive values life. Perhaps he values his/her life over others, but don’t most of us kind of do that? Sure there are some (children, loved-ones) whose well-being we place above our own, but for the most part... Also, the unspeakable acts for survival only occur in those certain dire, drastic situations making cannibalism not very high on my list of worries. I’m more concerned about why there are no longer advertisements for the Slinky. Everyone loves a slinky. I’m also more concerned about people who don’t seem to value life at all. The murderers and rapists and pedophiles that take or ruin life at whim. The whole murder-suicide thing is rather annoying. Just take out the murder part, will you? Whew. Things are getting a little too dark here. And during Christmas. So let’s brighten things up a tad. Sunshine. Roses. Sunshine shining on roses. That’s better. The thing about dark days is that they allow for brighter days. Now hopefully your dark days are not spent crashed in the Andes with only dead human flesh to eat, but if they happen to be, I’m not judging.

Sunshine.
Roses.
Sunshine shining on roses.

This day has been Marked.
